CAMBODIA: January 22- Feb 5, 2011 (or close approximate). We are returning to the southern region of Takeo, where Peacework Medical has been established in the center of 17 villages for primary care and health education. This project includes a cultural/recreational weekend to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat, a UNESCO Heritage site.
HONDURAS: January, 2011: Our commitment to Honduras can be traced back to Hurricane Mitch in 1998, and the first Peacework Medical project was in this beautiful country. We will return to the southern town of Nacaome for primary care and health education, where nearby rural communities are given tickets to come "to town" to have access to our free services.
Why do we ask you to register so far in advance??
There are different reasons...one is because the credentialing process for medical professionals is lengthy, and I need to do it as a group, so the group must be formed.
Another reason is logistics. Once I can cap the size of the group, credential it, I can begin to negotiate prices on the ground for lodging and transportation for us.
Yet another reason is fundraising and packing the medications. Individuals in a formed group are much more likely to help with medications collections and fund raising, which is key to actually stocking the clinic. Since we fly with our meds as checked baggage, the team has to be formed well in advance to have the meds inventoried, weighed, labelled, and ready to fly.
Finally, having a formed team just makes better sense in terms of cohesiveness. We do have to work together well!
So please register in the summer of 2010 for any of these projects. I look forward to working with you.
Thank you in advance for all you will do.
